Explorations of the Divine: A Visual Art Contemplation by 3 Young Women Artists

As a part of Macy’s 2013 Art Sampler, Grailville presents a beautiful winter afternoon of artwork from three local young women artists: Amy Tuttle, Marjorie Bledsoe and Megan Suttman-Divelbiss, called Explorations of the Divine: A Visual Contemplation by 3 Young Women Artists held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Grailville Retreat & Program Center in Loveland, OH from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm with an exclusive talk with the artists at 4:00 pm.
Explorations of the Divine focuses on the journey of three young women grappling with their understanding of the Divine, its effect on their daily life and, ultimately the expression of the Divine in their art. The inspiration for the project and bios from each artist are below.
Amy Tuttle is a visual artist residing in the Enright Ridge Urban Eco-Village in Price Hill, Cincinnati. She received her MA in Transformative Arts from Eastern University. She has shown her work locally at Warsaw Project Gallery, Corner BLOC Coffee Shop, & Imago Earth Center. This year, she received an Ohio Arts Council grant to continue the development of her Trail Art project at Grailville Program & Retreat Center. Her true artistic passion lies in community arts and has led her around the world as an artist, teacher, and project coordinator in places such as Mungeli, India, Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and Philadelphia, PA. In fall 2012, Tuttle served as a “trainer” for a pilot program with BuildaBridge International and UNICEF in Haiti. She provided “Community Arts for Children” training and certification to over 100 Haitian community leaders. Tuttle looks forward to continuing her creative pursuits in the great city of Cincinnati and abroad!
Her Inspiration for the Art Show:
For years, Amy Tuttle has been inspired by conversations and brief encounters with the mystical, feminine divine. She has enjoyed the challenge of representing these encounters via visual arts for “Exploring the Divine.” Her images and inspiration are largely drawn from her understanding of the relationship between earth, spirituality, and femininity. Look for metaphors of abundance, joy, rebirth, and beauty in Tuttle’s works.
Megan Suttman Divelbiss is an artist, and Waldorf educator. She has studied painting, drawing, fiber arts, and ceramics through various programs. Under the title, “Nutmeg Handmade,” she works in many mediums including fiber, and jewelry.
Her inspiration for the Art Show:
Explorations of the Divine is for her the quest to awaken the Divine stirring that is in the heart of all human kind. It is shining light on the golden strands which run through each person’s life with the longing for the beautiful communal tapestry that comes with balance, hope, forgiveness and a long memory of where we came. She is interested in the balance of masculine and feminine forces in our changing world and the hope that can be found in this coming age for all of humanity and the Earth.
Marjorie Bledose is an artist and designer from Oxford, Ohio. She currently lives in Elmwood Place in Cincinnati. She works in several mediums including ceramics, collage, paint, and watercolor. She taught ceramics for 6 years, and she looks forward to returning to her teaching after she completes her second year of Americorps service in 2013. She is most of the way though a Fine Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati's DAAP program, which she transferred into from Hocking College, where she attended for American Craft Design, Marketing, and Music Production/Performance.
Her inspiration for the Art Show:
She has always had a strong connection to nature, one that she would describe as spiritual and psychic. She discovered her life totem animal at a young age, as she made contact with her native ancestry. The Red-Tailed Hawk has always offered her secret messages, and meanings that only she can understand in the moment that one soars above her or across her path. Her connection to the spiritual realm is very mystical, and somewhat unstructured, as she has had no religion, dogma, or traditions to channel it. It comes to her through nature, animals, interactions with people, and art. She hopes to hone her spirituality as she continues to explore the relationship that she, and all things have to each other, the universe, and the Divine.

Explorations of the Divine: A Visual Contemplation by 3 Young Women Artists will be held on Saturday, February 9th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, at Grailville Retreat & Program Center at 932 O’Bannonville Road, Loveland OH.
